Amy Hunt finishes third in 200m at Diamond League, sets season's best of 22.16 seconds

At the Diamond League final in Brussels, Belgium, on the morning of September 14, British athlete Amy Hunt finished third in the women's 200m with a time of 22.16 seconds – a season's best and just 0.08 seconds off her lifetime best. The winner was Julien Alfred of St Lucia in 21.79 seconds – the fastest time in the world this season. Second place went to Kayla White of the USA in 22.00 seconds. Although unable to challenge for the gold, Hunt showed consistent late-season form, especially after taking four gold medals at the European Championships in Birmingham in August. Speaking after the race, Hunt said she was pleased with her performance, particularly on the bend, which she described as “probably one of the best bends I've ever done”. However, she admitted that her strength faded in the final 20 metres due to a busy season. “I'm really really proud of that one. I tried to hold my technique to the last strides, but my body felt a bit tired. Still, this is a good sign ahead of the big competitions”, she said. Hunt will return to the track in the 100m on the following night of the Diamond League final, where she will face Sha'Carri Richardson, an Olympic silver medallist. After that, she will compete at the Ultimate Championships in Budapest, beginning September 11. Her plan is to contest both the 100m and 200m – a major test of endurance but consistent with her training philosophy: long repetitions with only 45 seconds of recovery during winter, building a foundation for a dense competition schedule. This result places Hunt firmly in medal contention for major championships. Running close to her personal best under a congested calendar suggests she is on the right track before the world championship season. Fans expect her to push even higher with proper rest.
